Volunteers from Witney Foodbank were invited for a day out as guests of Cotswold Wildlife Park near Burford, Oxfordshire, to thank them for their contribution to helping families in need.  It was also in recognition of Volunteers’ Week (2-8 June), a national campaign to celebrate the work of volunteers across the country.

Reggie Heyworth, Managing Director of Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens said:

“It’s one of those things that all too often people don’t really want to acknowledge, especially in a relatively wealthy area such as West Oxfordshire, synonymous with the bucolic Cotswolds: the fact that we have a food bank in Witney and that it is really important is something that a lot of people struggle with. That makes the work of these volunteers all the more important. We can’t just wish this away, but it’s all too few very special people who really put their shoulder to the wheel.

He added:“So it is lovely to be able to put something back and give a day out to these fantastic people, the unsung heroes who volunteer at our local food bank in Witney, and all of us at Cotswold Wildlife Park are very proud to be a part of such an important community initiative.

Maria Grindley, Chair of Witney and West Oxfordshire Foodbank said:

“We are so pleased to receive this generous gift from Cotswold Wildlife Park during Volunteers’ Week. Most people don’t expect recognition for helping with a cause they believe in, so this is particularly welcome.

She added: “We couldn’t support the families in our area experiencing food poverty if it wasn’t for a team of dedicated volunteers and we are grateful for all they do.”
